Ice Ice Baby

I made it alive! Hazaah!

Left Winnipeg at one-ish, managed to compose myself before getting on the plane. People were starting to give me weird looks. What? Can't a grown woman sit and cry in an airport lounge?! Anyway, made it to toronto without and problems, then basically ran to my gate to get to Frankfurt. That flight was pretty uneventful all the way through (minus the two guys behind me getting completely HAMMERED on 6.00 tiny wine bottles) UNTIL we tried to land in Frankfurt. As we were descending, it looked really pretty in the clouds, it was snowing/raining so it looked like we were flying through glitter. Wee. But then, we got underneath the clouds and saw that the runway was just a sheet of black ice from the so called "pretty" glitter ice rain of death. The pilot came on the intercom and said "Ladies and gents, you may want to prepare for a difficult landing." Ugh. So we touched down and proceeded to slide down the entire runway, it felt like we were fishtailing...but in a massive PLANE. We finally came to a full stop, and then the pilot started to drive the plane into the correct gate from there.

Then flying from Frankfurt to Ljub, the storm had gotten so bad that they had to de-ice the plane twice, and delayed the flight about half an hour. But, do you think a snow/ice/rain storm will stop Adria Airways from boarding out on the tarmac? No sir...we had to walk out there in all that precipitation to get on a tiny plane that I was fairly certain would be the death of me.

When I got to Brnik airport, Primoz was supposed to pick me up. He wasn't there. So i waited and waited and waited for about 40 minutes, and then remembered I had his number. So I got some random tourist info man to lend me his cell phone and I called Primoz. He got the times mixed up...he thought i was coming in 11:45 pm. So he called Matic and Joe to come and get me. 2 hours later, I was finally in a house.

Kinda feel sick from not eating enough and not sleeping enough, but I'm going to go to sleep now and hopefully will feel better in the morning.

Better

Things are somewhat better! Hazaah!

For sure have an apartment and also got some pictures today which are posted on facebook because i hate posting pictures on this stupid site.
Goodbye party with the fam was a lot of fun; we laughed, I cried, we ate lots of food. Still don't know who is picking me up from the airport or where I'll be staying for the first three days or so, but whateverrrrrr, I just want to get there and get settled.
I'll be meeting Laura in Milan on the 10th and then we are semi-planning to go to Venice on the 12th and then maybe go back to Koper. My to/from winnipeg itinerary is as follows:

Thursday, Jan. 28: Winnpeg-Toronto at 12:45 pm
Toronto- Frankfurt
Frankfurt-Ljubljana ....arrive in Ljub. at 11:45 am.

Tuesday June 29: Ljub-Frankfurt
Frankfurt-Toronto (or maybe montreal, I can't remember)
Toronto- Winnipeg...arrive in Wpg at around 10:30 pm.

Anyhoos, that's all I know for now! T-6 days!

Same Old Brand New You

Hello everyone out there! This is my blog solely dedicated to my semester exchange in Koper, Slovenia. For those of you who follow my other blog, that one will still be updated with all the...ermm things that are not good for the general public, so keep reading that one because I'm sure it will be funny, if nothing else.

So it is currently T-20 days until departure and things are more up in the air then I would like. At the moment I still have not applied for a residence visa, have no idea what my courses are and how they are set up (ie actual classes, directed readings, or none of the above). No news on an abode, so that is a little worrysome, but all in all, I think it will be okay. Having family kickin around doesn't hurt...I know I'll always have a place to go in a pinch.

Right now, the only firm plans are that Laura, Marie-Eve, Alison and I want to hit up Venice for Mardis Gras sometime between he 4th-14th of Feb. and I have a concert in Milano on Feb.11. The rest is just a "go with the flow" sort of situation until we find out about classes and school work. We all want to go to Turkey for a bit, and of course, will be taking any opportunity to travel anywhere!

Hopefully I will be able to update fairly often when I get to Slovenia...just so you know I'm still alive and not "lying dead in a ditch somewhere" as my mother puts it. ENJOY!
